Workshop Description:

Have you thought of winding down or closing your practice? Have you been afraid to talk with colleagues about retirement for fear of losing referrals? Do you know what the legal and ethical considerations are in closing a practice? Have you considered what you will do next? In this interactive workshop, Dr. Motherwell, who closed her psychology practice in 2014, will discuss the practical, ethical, clinical, and psychological aspects of winding down a clinical practice and gearing up for retirement.

Objectives:

1. Participants will learn the relevant APA Ethical Guidelines for closing a practice.

2. Participants will learn how to plan for, announce, and deal with reactions from their clients (and colleagues) to their retirement.

3. Participants will learn practical aspects of closing a practice, including when and how to talk about retirement to colleagues and clients, what to do with clinical files, and how and to whom to make referrals.

4. Participants will have an opportunity to explore their own feelings about retirement and what they plan to do next.

Presenter:
