About Me
Joel Guarna is a licensed psychologist in the state of Maine. His early career was delivering addictions treatment, including in the VA Boston System. Upon relocating to Maine, he opened a private practice and ran this for 17 years. In recent years, his work has focused on clinic-based health psychology and behavioral medicine, specifically in integrated behavioral health and the treatment of diabetes and chronic pain. In 2019, he joined the faculty of the Maine Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program where he served as Behavioral Health Faculty Lead until 2024. He currently serves as the Director of Education and Outreach at Psychology Specialists of Maine (PSM; Portland, Brunswick, telehealth) and sees clients through PSM.
